About

Snake River Seed Co-op is a collective of farmers, seed enthusiasts, and plant diversity advocates promoting local seed diversity and a more sustainable food system. We operate a seed growers’s cooperative and we love to teach classes to adults and children about seeds and how to protect and produce them.

We strive to engage people at all stages of their growing love affair with seeds, from their first realization that buying local seeds will result in a more bountiful and sustainable garden, through their first seed saving attempt and, in some cases, to their first production of seeds for our grower’s co-op!

How can I be involved?

1. BUY OUR SEEDS! Our seeds are grown in the Intermountain West by people who care deeply about raising them well. In addition to buying them from our ~Online Seed Catalog~, you can also purchase them on our retail seed racks at independent nurseries and co-ops around Idaho! Currently, the following vendors offer our seeds:

In the TREASURE VALLEY: North End Organic Nursery, Edwards Greenhouse, Zamzows (11 locations), the Boise Co-op (downtown and Village locations), The Garden Shoppe

In McCALL: May Hardware, Franz Witte Nursery

In Idaho Falls: Town and Country Gardens

In Moscow: The Moscow Food Co-op

In Ponderay: Ponderay Garden Center

In Pocatello: Pocatello Co-op

(Don’t see your local shop on our list? Ask them to carry Snake River Seeds.  Contact us at ic.)

2. JOIN OUR SEED LIBRARY! For a lifetime membership of $25, you have access to our entire Seed Library Catalog, as well as a Seed Saving Zine and invitations to classes and events! You can develop or hone your seed saving skills alongside other local gardeners! Join the library!

3. BECOME A SEED GROWER! If you have some practice with seed saving/growing and a bit of land, we’d love to talk with you about what you can grow for us! (Of course, if you’re a commercial seed producer already, we DEFINITELY want to talk to you as well!) The best crops are things you love to grow already, though we also have a constant list of “needed crops” to grow out as well. Contact us with your ideas!
