Bean, Frog Island Native Fava

Vicia faba

Easy on the eyes, nourishing for the garden, and a delight for the palate!

The favorite of our 2016 International Year of Pulses trials, this stately variety produces pretty pods with an average of 3-4 beans per pod. Purple color develops as beans dry. Excellent cover crop and nitrogen fixer. We received these seeds from a 2016 Organic Seed Alliance seed swap and have been delightedly growing them ever since. A most stunning and tasty fava. OP.

Directions: Direct seed 6" apart in spring/early summer for fresh eating, or thicker in spring/late summer for cover crop. Will winter kill.
