Description

Asclepias engelmanniana Woodson

Webstore Exclusive

This variety of Milkweed was named after a physician and botanist, George Engelmann (1809-1884). Engelmann's milkweed is native to the West Central and Central United States, as well as Northern Mexico.

Throughout Engelmann's Milkweed's native range, it can be found in open sandy hillsides, right of ways, washes, bottoms, shortgrass prairies and draws. Due to its native habitat, it will likely prefer warmer and dryer locations in order to thrive. According to the NRCS, Engelmann's Milkweed is one of many milkweed varieties used in restoration and managing both rare and declining habitats.
