Bean, Scarlet Runner

  • Sold out

Phaseolus coccineus

An excellent pole bean with delicate, scarlet flowers!

The flowers of these heirloom beans are loved by hummingbirds and are best grown as an ornamental in our hot climate. They can produce bean pods, which are best eaten as young green beans, but our summer temperatures can cause the blossoms to drop without producing a bean. Growing this beautiful and unique bean is still worth it in our book!

Seed grown by Freezone Farm in Nine Mile Falls, Washington and Downtown Teaching Farm in Boise, Idaho.

30 seeds.

Directions: Direct seed after last frost. Or, start indoors 3 weeks before last frost and transplant after. Provide a pole or trellis.
