Description

Cucumis melo

Webstore Exclusive

Large fragrant fruited heirloom, with rich orange flesh that is very fragrant and its taste exquisite.

Developed in 1912 by Father Athanase of the Trappist Monastery at La Trappe, Quebec. It was a cross between the Montreal Melon and Banana Melon.  After many years it was thought to be extinct but was rediscovered on the Island of Bizard, Quebec.

Oka Melon is very hardy, ready in about 80 days. The skin is light green with concentric ridges running top to bottom. It's juicy, rich tasting orange flesh can also be dried and then it tastes like mangos!

Wait to harvest muskmelons until the stem separates from the fruit with a gentle tug, a definite sign they are ripe.
