Description
Foeniculum vulgare
Fine Italian heirloom with elegant white bulbs and a lovely, delicate flavor.
What a graceful plant! All parts (bulbs, stalks, leaves, flowers, and seeds) are edible and have a distinctive fresh but mild licorice flavor, which mellows when cooked. Prefers cooler weather and tends to bolt in hot weather, so plant early for an early summer harvest, or plant later for a fall harvest. Harvest bulbs before flower stalks bolt for the best crisp texture.
Seeds grown by Field Goods Farm in Boise, Idaho and Twisp River Seed in Twisp, Washington.
275 seeds.
Directions: Direct seed or start indoors mid-spring and transplant out once roots are established, 4-6 weeks. Start in July/August for a fall crop. To aid germination: soak 1-2 days before planting. 50 days for baby, 80 for full size
