Description
Vicia faba
Wildly diverse and hardy variety—shelled fresh beans are a late spring delicacy!
Fava beans were originally grown in North Africa and have since been grown around the Mediterranean region for thousands of years. They are delightful fresh!
An open-source and delightfully diverse fava variety with dozens of distinct parents—their love children have been adapting to the rugged Intermountain West for years on breeder William Schlegel’s Montana farm. They need cool weather to flower & fruit successfully, so plant them early! In addition to delicious fresh eating, favas make an excellent soil-building, nitrogen-fixing cover crop.
