Tomato, Idagold

Description

Solanum lycopersicum

Extremely prolific and early orange salad tomato bred by the University of Idaho.

These 2" orange fruits are among the first to ripen on the farm, and they spit out more fruits than seems possible on frankly scrawny plants. What they lack in leaves they make up for in bright, mellow-flavored fruits! Excellent for short-season areas.

Tomatoes are native to northwestern South America and by at least 500 BC they had been domesticated and were being cultivated as far north as modern-day Mexico, enjoyed by Aztec and other civilizations. They spread to Europe and the Caribbean through the Spanish colonizers, where they became staple parts of the food culture in many European countries as well. And of course, they made it all the way to our little corner of the earth too!

Determinate. Open-pollinated.

Seeds grown by Affinity Farm in Moscow, Idaho.

30 seeds.

Directions: Start indoors 6-8 weeks before last frost and transplant out after. Bury past first set of leaves, add eggshells to soil for calcium, and provide support.
