Tomato, Galina Cherry

  • $3.50

Description

Solanum lycopersicum

Flavorful, early-ripening Siberian cherry tomato.
INDETERMINATE. In 1989, a Siberian seedswoman named Galina shared this high-mountain-adapted variety with Idaho seedsman Bill McDorman, who trialed it in the high mountains of Central Idaho and affirmed its exceptional cold-hardiness. Decades later, it seems still to love growing in Idaho & the high-mountain west! It’s our earliest-ripening cherry, boasting oodles of sturdy, bright yellow 3/4” fruits with perfectly balanced flavor.

Tomatoes are native to northwestern South America and by at least 500 BC they had been domesticated and were being cultivated as far north as modern-day Mexico, enjoyed by Aztec and other civilizations. They spread to Europe and the Caribbean through the Spanish colonizers, where they became staple parts of the food culture in many European countries as well. Their circuitous journey has taken them from the Western hemisphere to Siberia and back again.

Seeds grown by Earthly Delights Farm in Boise, Idaho and Sonshine Acres in Emmett, Idaho.

30 seeds.

Directions: Start indoors 6-8 weeks before last frost and transplant out after. Bury past first set of leaves, add eggshells to soil for calcium, and provide support.
