John “JC” Caccia has been growing seeds for SRSC for the past 5 years. For 2 years he grew the seeds for Smooth German Kale, a unique annual variety of Kale that goes to seed in the first growing season (!) and thrives in colder growing regions. For the past 3 years John has been growing Tatsoi seed (a zesty, late blooming and heat hardy salad green) for the Co-op. Seven years ago John, with the support of a dozen local gardeners and seed savers, started the Wood River Seed Library which continues to teach seed saving and share locally grown seeds throughout the Wood River Valley. He was one of the co-founders of Rocky Mountain Seed Alliance which has recently changed it’s organizational name to Seeds in Common (seedsincommon.org). John is currently living on a friend’s 25-acre farm property located along the Snake River near Banbury Hot Springs where he is trying to stay out of trouble by tending to his garden, keeping bees, planting trees and saving seeds.
