Description
Solanum lycopersicum
Early variety with a beautiful story, brought to the US by Idaho seedsman Bill McDorman!
Idaho seedsman Bill McDorman brought this variety from behind the Iron Curtain in the 1980s. Sasha traveled miles to bring Bill his special tomato, which he bred to thrive in his harsh mountain garden in Siberia. Early (60 days) with 2-3" fruits. Meatier than many early varieties!
Determinate. Open-pollinated.
Tomatoes are native to northwestern South America and by at least 500 BC they had been domesticated and were being cultivated as far north as modern-day Mexico, enjoyed by Aztec and other civilizations. They spread to Europe and the Caribbean through the Spanish colonizers, where they became staple parts of the food culture in many European countries as well, then onto Siberia. Their circuitous journey brought them from the Western hemisphere to the Eastern and back again!
