Description

Gaillardia aristata

Beautiful, carefree perennial wildflower. A favoite of bees and butterflies!

Long-blooming North American native, beautiful in perennial gardens, wildflower meadows, rock gardens, and cut flower gardens. Drought-tolerant and easy to grow. Will self-seed gently. First fuzzy leaves resemble dandelions, so be careful! Open-pollinated.

Seeds grown by Field Goods Farm in Boise, ID and Twisp River Seed in Twisp, WA.

60 seeds.

Directions: Germinates best with a 4-week period of exposure to cold and moist conditions. Can either direct seed or sow in pots outside in late winter to very early Spring, while there is still frost in the forecast. Transplant from pots when plants are big enough to handle easily, with several leaves. To start indoors, remove seeds from the packet and wrap seed in a moist (but not sopping wet) coffee filter or paper towel, place in a plastic sandwich bag, and place the bag in a clean glass jar, and store in the refrigerator for 4 weeks. If you want to broadcast the seed (rather than sowing individually), mix the seeds with moist sand in a plastic bag. Put the bag in a clean jar and the place in the refrigerator for 4 weeks. Then plant the cold-stratified seed, either outside directly into your garden or into containers. Transplant container-grown plants when large enough to handle easily.
