Description
Valerianella locusta
Fantastically nutty and cold-hardy salad green.
This nutty little number is so delicious that the brothers Grimm named a character after its German name. Rapunzel’s mother craved it so much during her pregnancy that her father snuck into the witch’s garden to get it for his wife, which ultimately cost them their child, whom the witch named after her mother’s most beloved snack. It’s quite cold-hardy but bolts in hot weather. 6” tall—great for containers!
Seeds grown by Swift River Farm in Salmon, Idaho.
375 Seeds.
Directions: Direct seed in fall and protect with cold-frame for winter eating, or plant in spring and harvest often to keep from bolting. Does not grow well in hot conditions.
