Scabiosa atropurpurea
This easy-to-grow plant sports gorgeous button-shaped purple-black flowers on long graceful stems, making it a stunning addition to a cut flower garden. It reaches 2 1/2' tall and is beloved in the garden by more than just humans. Many different insects and pollinators also drink its sweet, sweet nectar. After the blooms fade, it makes delightful Tim Burton-esque seeds that elicit elaborate stories of fancy from all who make their acquaintance.
