Directions:
- Start with a 10 x 20-inch tray with holes, or use a disposable food container with holes poked in the bottom for drainage.
- Fill the tray with potting soil, approximately 2 inches deep.
- Lightly water the soil, ensuring it is as moist as a wrung-out sponge.
- Scatter about ½ ounce of microgreen seeds over the soil, or an equivalent amount for the size of the container you are using.
Use less seed if you're growing sprouts for baby basil salad, or selectively and gently dislodge a few sproutlings and transplant to watch them grow into FULL ON BASIL PLANTS! It takes a lot of sprouts to make pesto. - Sprinkle about ¼ inch of soil over the top of the seeds and pat it down gently.
- Mist the soil with a spray bottle or gently water it to ensure even moisture.
- Place the tray in a dark location, such as a cabinet or closet, for 3-5 days to allow the seeds to germinate and develop roots. Alternatively, you can use a blackout tray designed for this purpose.
- Check the soil moisture daily and lightly mist if necessary. Avoid overwatering to prevent mold growth.
- After 4-7 days, move the tray to a well-lit area, such as a kitchen counter, where the microgreens can receive sufficient light for growth.
- Your microgreens should be ready to harvest in 20-25 days.
- For baby basil salad microgreens, wait for approximately 25 days before harvesting. Cut the microgreens just above the soil line.
- For FULL ON BASIL PLANTS, follow the planting directions on any one of our basil varieties for recommended plant spacing and estimated days to maturity.
- If you are growing year round (indoors and/or in pots) the time it will take for plants to fully mature will vary due to changes in hours of available light per day and the general temperature of the environment the plants are grown in.
1 oz of seed covers approximately two 10x20 inch planting trays for sprouts.
You can use less seed if you are growing sprouts for baby basil salad greens, to leave them more space.
