Bean, Pico Pardal Garbanzo

  • $4.00

Description

Cicer arietinum

The Pico Pardal Garbanzo bean is originally from the León province in northwestern Spain. In Spanish, pico pardal means "sparrow beak" which refers to the shape of this small seed and its distinguishable "beak"! This variety of chickpea is a common ingredient in the dish Cocido Maragato, a León style chickpea, meat and veggie stew. The thin coat of this bean cooks up well, providing a delightfully creamy consistency. Yum!

Garbanzo beans were originally cultivated in the Mediterranean and the Middle East, hence their common use in dishes from these regions. Chickpeas are, in fact, one of the oldest cultivated legumes in the world. The earliest varieties date back 7500 years ago!
