Garlic, Inchelium Red Softneck

  • $11.40

Allium sativum

"This large bulbed softneck has won multiple taste test awards, including top honors at the Rodale Kitchens Taste test! Flavor! KAPOW!
Inchelium Red has a mild heat with a slight lingering tingle on the tongue, making it a lovely baking or raw garlic. Bulbs can be over 3 inches in diameter, producing 4-5 layers of cloves with a total of 8-20 cloves in a head. Outer layers produce large, easy-to-peel cloves, which decrease in size towards the center of the head.
Inchelium Red braids are good for hanging in kitchens, a traditional and beautiful way to store and display your garlic. Large bulbs, mild flavor, and long shelf life make this one of the world's most popular soft neck varieties.

Storage instructions: Make sure to keep your garlic in a brown bag in a cool, dark, dry place until you are ready to plant it. 60-70 degrees Fahrenheit is the ideal storage temperature. Air must be able to circulate freely around the bag. Do not store garlic in the refrigerator.

Sowing instructions: Garlic is best sown in the fall after the first light frost of the season. Bulbs should not be separated into cloves until just before planting. Sow with the point where the cloves attached to the bulb pointed down. We recommend mulching your garlic bed with a light layer of leaves to help with weed suppression and overwintering.
