Gourd, Large Bottle Birdhouse

  • Sold out

Description

Laegenaria siceraria

Vigorous vines will easily climb a fence or trellis, creating shade. Leaves, flowers, and fruit all create a show-stopping display. Allow gourds to dry out on the vine before picking and using for bottles, birdhouses, etc. Some gourd growers recommend curing gourds for a year or more for the most durability. Need a long season to ripen: 125-140 days.

Directions: Start indoors mid-April in pots or direct seed after last frost. Scarifying seed with sandpaper before planting helps germination. Plant 1" deep and thin to 3' apart.
