Description
Solanum lycopersicum
Don’t let the grotesque name scare you! This little gem screams to be salsa!
Tidy plants bear dozens of unique, 3-4" long, pale yellow fruits. Wonderful for drying. Extremely unique color creates contrast in salsas and fresh plates. This variety was supposedly bred by Tom Wagner with the name Banana Cream, and then in 2004 Baker Creek introduced it as Cream Sausage.
Tomatoes are native to northwestern South America and by at least 500 BC they had been domesticated and were being cultivated as far north as modern-day Mexico, enjoyed by Aztec and other civilizations. They spread to Europe and the Caribbean through the Spanish colonizers, where they became staple parts of the food culture in many European countries as well, and their story shifts and changes with each new seed steward.
